The return of seven HAW28M CASTOR® casks containing remaining German waste from England to the state-owned interim storage facility for nuclear fuel elements in Isar is scheduled to take place in the first half of 2025. The Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE), which is responsible for the storage of the casks in the interim storage facility, granted the operator of the interim storage facility, the state-owned BGZ Gesellschaft für Zwischenlagerung, a storage license in 2023. The BASE also issued the required transport permit on December 20, 2024.
