The return of seven HAW28M CASTOR® casks containing remaining German waste from England to the state-run interim storage facility for nuclear fuel elements in Brokdorf is still pending. The Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Disposal (BASE), which is responsible, granted the operator of the interim storage facility, the state-owned BGZ Gesellschaft für Zwischenlagerung, the so-called storage license for storing the casks in the interim storage facility in 2024. The application for the transport permit, which is also required, is currently being prepared. Basic information on taking back waste from England can be found here.
