Interim Storage

For more than 27 years GNS owned and operated the centralized interim storage facilities for Spent Fuel, HLW, ILW and LLW at Ahaus and Gorleben. In the course of the reorganisation of the responsibility for nuclear waste management in Germany, in August 2017 these two facilities were transferred to the State. The interim storage facilities are managed both organisationally and technically by BGZ Gesellschaft für Zwischenlagerung mbH, which was founded specifically for this purpose.

GNS continues to offer comprehensive engineering and project management for interim storage facilities:

  • Design, Licensing, Overall Project Management and Operations
  • State-of-Art Methods for Design, Safety Anaylses and Radiation Protection
  • Proven and Well-accepted by Utilities and Authorities

Furthermore GNS delivers casks and equipment for transport and storage.
