Ignalina

CONSTOR® RBMK1500/M2At the end of 2009, the second and last remaining reactor block of the Lithuanian nuclear power plant Ignalina was shut down. For the safe storage of the fuel elements from the former world's most powerful reactors, GNS supplies a total of 190 newly developed CONSTOR® RBMK 1500/M2 casks, together with the necessary equipment for handling and loading. The first loaded container was placed into the Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility (ISFSF) on 14 October 2016. The containers are to be stored in the ISFSF for 50 years.

For storage of the fuel elements from the RBMK-1500 reactors which were still in operation at that time, GNS already supplied 20 casks of the type CASTOR® RBMK 1500 in 1995 and a total of 98 CONSTOR® RBMK 1500 casks between 1997 and 2010. All these casks are still stored onsite at Ignalina power plant.
