RWM issues fLoC for ILW resins from Sizewell B nuclear power station

Radioactive Waste Management Ltd., the NDA’s subsidiary in charge of preparing for disposal of intermediate and high level waste in the planned geological disposal facility (GDF), has issued a “final stage Letter of Compliance” for intermediate level waste resins packaged into 55 GNS MOSAIK® casks in 2013 and 2014 at Sizewell B nuclear power station.

The resins were packaged and dewatered by GNS using their waste treatment facilities FAFNIR and NEWA and have been under scrutiny by RWM and ONR since final transfer to the on site interim store. After closing out a few remaining action points from the interim stage Letter of Compliance RWM recently issued the final document to GNS’s customer EDF Energy. This marks the successful completion of an 8-year-project which in addition to the production and management of the LoC submission, comprised the design and installation of new pipework within the station´s resin transfer system, modifications to the stations SCADA system and development of the safety case.
