GNS supplies 47 transport and storage casks of the type CASTOR® V/52 to the German NPP Gundremmingen for the complete spent fuel removal

GNS Gesellschaft für Nuklear-Service mbH has received an order to supply 47 transport and storage casks of the type CASTOR® V/52. The casks will be used for the removal of all spent fuel assemblies from the two boiling water reactor units of the German nuclear power plant Gundremmingen operated by RWE Nuclear GmbH. The casks are to be delivered between 2021 and 2025. After loading in the reactor building, the casks will be stored in the local on-site interim storage facility.

"The CASTOR® V/52 is able to reliably cover our wide range of spent fuel assemblies with one single cask solution," explains Dr. Heiko Ringel, Gundremmingen NPP plant manager. "The CASTOR® casks we have now ordered will meet all of our remaining requirements in Gundremmingen, and once these casks have been loaded those two units will be free of nuclear fuel.”
