GNS develops cask concept for final disposal of highly radioactive waste in crystalline host rock

The German Bundesgesellschaft für Endlagerung mbH (BGE) is looking for the best possible site for a repository for Germany's high-level radioactive waste. The repository must shield the waste from man and nature for a million years. For the safe containment and handling of high-level radioactive waste, apart from the deep geological formation also the casks play a decisive role. GNS, together with BGE TECHNOLGY GmbH, has been commissioned by BGE to develop a cask concept for final disposal in crystalline rock under the project name "ELBRock".
